Why Air New Zealand is the Coolest Airline ever!

As someone who loves to travel I often find myself on planes. I have found that most airlines are pretty indistinguishable. Unless of course your willing to shell out for first class your likely to end up in an uncomfortable seat for an extended amount of time. This seat is usually accompanied by a monotonous instructional video, a sleepless night, boredom and subpar food (if any at all) leaving you fatigued when you actually arrive to your destination. I expected my flights (I was actually on 3!) would be no different and I was especially dreading the 13 hr trip to Auckland. When I got on the 747 I was pleasantly surprised….

I saw these lovely white leather seats in the first class area, but as I continued through the plane I thought, “Wow, the business class is huge! Where is the economy? Wait this IS the economy!?!” I was surprised to find the seats had foot rests, tons of leg room and even the chairs in the last row could recline. And I didn’t even mind watching the instructional video as it’s hilarious! I actually would look forward to watching it as I had to watch it four times. (I have it linked at the top)

And of course my favorite part….the touch screens. There were tons of great movies you could choose from and watch at any time (basically like Netflix). You could create your own playlist on there with the thousands of songs to choose from (for those of who love British artists you won’t have trouble finding them). In addition to that there were funny Youtube videos (I personally loved the Air Zealand skits the best) and video games. You could order food at any time and see when meals were served and what was on the menu. (Ice cream for dessert anyone?)

Plus there were tons of little details like cute wallpaper in the bathroom that made it look like you were in a library (there is also elevator music in there fore some reason). You could walk up and get water with lemon wedges whenever you wanted but drinks are served many times throughout the flight. The ceilings are arched to it feels very spacious and there are little led lights on the ceiling that dim when its night and brighten when its day. Toothbrushes and toothpaste can be brought to you on request and at the end of each flight they always give you candy. (The white ones are mint btw not pineapple) Overall I’d say this is the best airline I have ever flown on and despite the flight being 13 hrs I throughly enjoined my experience.

Once the travel bug bites there is no known antidote, and I know that I shall be happily infected until the end of my life.

Anyone can give up, it’s the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that’s true strength.

Creativity requires taking what Einstein called ‘a leap into the unknown.’ This can mean putting your beliefs, reputation and resources on the line as you suffer the slings and arrows of ridicule.

Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things – air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky – all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.
Mark Twain
